Tanzania: Kilimanjaro will not be out of ice in 2015 17/04/2007 By Peter Vlam
The top of Kilimanjaro will not be out of ice in 2015. A date often
mentioned in international media. The white peak on 'Kili'- one of the
world's symbols of global warming - will be there for the next decades.
This is what Dr. Thomas Mölg and Prof. Georg Kaser stated last monday
on the EGU General Assembly in Vienna, during a press conference. The
scientists could not say when the ice will be dissapear. The long-term
trend of glacier retreat will nevertheless continue in the near future.
Furthermore the scientists said that glacier retreat on top of Mount
Kilimanjaro does not influence watersupply in the surrounding area. |
