Louis Néel Medal 2006
The British scientist G. David Price has won the prestigious EGU Louis Néel Medal for establishing the importance of computational mineral physics in Earth sciences and for outstanding contributions to the physics of the Earth's core.
The Louis Néel Medal has been established by the Division on Magnetism, Palaeomagnetism and Rock Physics in recognition of the scientific achievements of Louis Eugène Felix Néel, who shared the 1970 Nobel Prize of Physics for his fundamental research and discoveries concerning antiferromagnetism. This medal is reserved for individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in magnetism and palaeomagnetism, as defined in its broadest sense.
Work environment: G. David Price is professor of Mineral Physics at the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences University College London, and Head of Department Earth Sciences. Resumé Professor David Price's work has earned him great respect both from physicists and Earth scientists and established theory and computer simulation as a major tool to study Earth-forming materials and the deep interior of our planet. David's exceptional pedagogical and organisational skills have been a major factor in promoting Britain as the world's centre of excellence in mineral physics. Medal Lecture Professor David Price's will accept his medal and give his Medal lecture during the EGU General Assembly, to be held in Vienna, Austria from 2 – 7 April 2006. The lecture ‘The determination of thermal and structural state of the lower mantle and core via ab initio molecular dynamics’ starts at Monday, April 3 at 18:30 h, in Lecture Room 6 (K).More information: http://www.copernicus.org/EGU/awards/louis_neel_overview.html
