The Art of Communicating Geosciences - Perspectives, Opportunities, Examples

The public interest in geosciences has increased significantly in recent years. Due to increased coverage of (geo)scientific topics in print media, TV, and radio many geoscientists have made quite different experiences with journalists. On the other hand geoscientists have to tell stories that are of high potential interest for target groups like the interested public, school kids, teachers, and journalists.

Against this background the session addresses the general question how the dialogue between geoscientists and the media can be best organsed. What needs do journalists have? What can scientists expect from the media? What is needed to organise comunication processes successfully? Why does communication between journalists and scientist fail so often?
